Will Covid-19 hit ride sharing and public transport?

Just when we thought that ride sharing was going to reshape urban mobility, along came the coronavirus. Tracking the effects of this pandemic, a new survey by the IBM Institute for Business Value indicates that it will cause a major shift in our attitudes to transport and the way we travel.

Many of the 25,000 U.S. adults surveyed showed how worried they are about sharing transport. More than half of those who use ride-sharing apps said they would now stop using these services completely or use them less. Almost a quarter (24%) also said they would no longer use taxis or traditional car services. It looks like public transport will suffer too: 20% of regular bus, subway or train users said they would no longer use the services, while another 28% said they would use them less often.

Recent studies in Europe show similar attitudes. This means that we can expect to see more private vehicles on the roads in the near future...which is good news for the automotive replacement glass sector!
