AGC Automotive Europe and IAC (International Automotive Components) unveiled the StreetSmart Door concept last month at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. StreetSmart Door consists of a beautifully-crafted driver’s door with curved glass surfaces, blending advanced driver safety and information systems with premium materials and finish.
The StreetSmart Door integrates AGC ultra-thin, shock-resistant glass on a digital armrest interface, providing driver information and controls for comfort and lighting options. Its tactile surface and haptic feedback ensure intuitive eyes-on-the-road use. All-round vision is enhanced by the door’s curved-glass display of the side-camera’s monitoring system. The door also includes the auto industry’s first glass speaker, a transparent weight-saving audio device providing passengers with a unique surround-sound experience.
This connected door marks a dramatic shift in the use of glass-covered interfaces from smart devices to car interiors. Planning for future applications, it has been developed to support all driving modes – from personal use and ride-sharing to tomorrow’s autonomous use.
