A UK tech company called Envisics has combined augmented reality and holograms to create a high-impact navigation system that displays road directions in real time on the windscreen. By layering crystal-clear holographic images onto the real world seen through the windscreen, the system delivers a range of powerful optics – from showing you when to turn and which lane to take, to pointing out landmarks and displaying your speed.
Showcased at CES 2019 in Las Vegas, the holographic system claims to create sharper, clearer images than other HUDs and be easily adapted to vehicles of different shapes and sizes. Importantly, it also consumes 50% less power than conventional HUDs – making it particularly attractive for electric vehicles. Watch this video to see it yourself!
