With the absence of a loud engine to mask secondary sounds, these noises have become more pronounced. Factors such as aerodynamics and tire noise are intrinsic to any moving object, yet they can be intrusive. Completely insulating the cabin from noise is not advisable, as auditory cues are essential for road awareness and recognizing potential hazards. Thus, addressing this issue requires a delicate balance to ensure a peaceful yet safe driving experience for consumers.
In this complex scenario, Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) have sought the expertise of technical partners like AGC and acoustic engineering firms to craft bespoke solutions for each vehicle and its specific requirements. In this context, we have developed products for both OEM and ARG sectors, taking into account noise specifications (often, sound-engineered glass can be recognized by the CD, CK, GA, GC or GR in the Eurocode).
This shift adds a new layer to the functionality of our glass, marking another step in its evolution. The era when glass served a singular purpose is over. Now, our glass must not only meet the growing demands for connectivity and Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS) compatibility but also engage with sound management, both as a standalone feature and in conjunction with other onboard acoustic technologies.
Expanding the perspective to include Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) vehicles, we also consider the growing trend of voice-activated services within cars, which necessitates pristine sound quality for optimal voice recognition—from the user to the system's microphone. This constitute an added layer of complexity regarding the balance of noise vs silence.
