Mid-Year Update – A word with Benoit Haegdorens

Benoit, thank you for joining us today. Your business is closely tied to the evolution of the car parc. Can you tell us what’s happening in this space?
Thank you for having me! The global car parc is undergoing a fascinating transformation. At AGC ARG we are monitoring closely the growing share of electrified vehicles, both hybrids and pure electric vehicles (EVs), alongside the continued presence of internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. In 2025, electrified vehicles are expected to represent around a fifth of the total car parc, with hybrids accounting for about 12% and pure EVs between 7% and 9%. This shift is driven by environmental policies, technological advancements, and changing consumer preferences. However, ICE vehicles still dominate due to the slow turnover of older cars.

That’s interesting. But it seems like EV growth is slowing down. What’s causing this?
You’re absolutely right. While EVs have seen rapid growth in recent years, challenges like high costs, limited charging infrastructure, and reduced government incentives are softening demand. Automakers are now focusing more on hybrids, which offer a practical and cost-effective alternative for many consumers. This extends the transition period away from ICE vehicles.

Let’s shift to automotive glass. How is the rise of ADAS impacting your industry?
ADAS features like lane-keeping assist and adaptive cruise control rely heavily on sensors and cameras mounted on or near the windshield. Replacement glass must be ADAS-compatible, requiring precise manufacturing and specialized calibration after installation. This increases the complexity of production, but it’s a challenge that AGC ARG is more than equipped to handle. It’s an opportunity for us to showcase our expertise.

What other trends are shaping the automotive glass market?
At AGC ARG, we monitor all trends to stay ahead of the curve rather than falling behind. Electrification and increased vehicle production are driving demand for replacement glass. EVs require glass that meets stricter safety, aerodynamic, and thermal standards. Once again, this is where our expertise comes into play, allowing us to demonstrate our know-how and deliver OEM-quality products to meet this demand. Sustainability is also a growing focus, with efforts to use recycled materials and adopt circular economy practices. We are actively working on projects that will reshape the future of our industry.

Fascinating insights, Benoit. Thank you for sharing your expertise!
My pleasure! Thank you for the opportunity.
