The Eurocode® will evolve in 2025 to address the increasing complexity of our products

The “Automotive Replacement Glass Identification Center” (ARGIC) is an organisation that was founded in 1993 by leading companies in the Auto Replacement Glass sector to address the need for standardised identification of the glass products we provide to our customers. Structured around a technical committee, of which AGC has long been a member, ARGIC creates, maintains and administers the Eurocode® structure to ensure reliable identification, manage changes and offer better service. Currently, ARGIC oversees nearly 100,000 references and will continue to do so, keeping pace with the ever-growing Auto Replacement Glass (ARG) market.
As our products have become more complex, the current Eurocode® structure had to evolve to reflect the market’s growing realities. This evolution answers the need for a Eurocode® to be readable, by keeping it simple and understandable. Following a decision by ARGIC’s Board of Directors and the members of its Technical Committee, including AGC ARG, a revised Eurocode® format will be implemented in 2025. For every Eurocode® created after 1 January 2025, the updated format will be used, while every Eurocode® created before 31 December 2024 will remain unchanged.
In summary, the maximum length of a Eurocode® will increase from 15 to 17 characters, the slot reserved for modifications will expand from 2 to 3 characters and the current denomination will be reviewed to match the market’s growing realities. These changes will ensure the continuity of the service provided by ARGIC to all stakeholders in the industry.
It also highlights the importance of the involvement of organisations such as AGC and other players in the automotive glass industry in collaborative projects like ARGIC. Not only does being a member give us a voice in these discussions, it also makes us active participants in our industry.
